Is the average a conspiracy?
Every big review puts the average erect cock at 13 to 14 cm, and almost everyone thinks that is too small. Why the real average feels like a lie, and why it is not

Tell a group of gay men that the average erect cock is about 13 cm5.1 in and someone will say it cannot be right. Everyone he has been with was bigger. The studies must be old, or done on the wrong men, or written by people with an agenda. It is a fun theory. It also falls apart quickly, and the reasons it feels true are more interesting than the theory itself.
The studies agree
A conspiracy needs coordination, and the numbers are remarkably consistent for researchers who have never met. A 2015 review of clinician-measured studies found an average erect length of 13.1 cm5.2 in. A 2023 review of 75 studies and over 55,000 men landed at 13.9 cm5.5 in. A 2025 review of 33 studies, again only with professional measurement, found 13.8 cm5.4 in. A 2021 review that went through the evidence again concluded that the true figure lies between about 13 cm5.1 in and 14 cm5.5 in, probably toward the lower end.
These teams worked in different countries, with different methods and different samples, and they disagree only about the decimal. If there is a plot, it is very well organised.
If anything, the average is too high
Here is the twist. Every known bias in size research pushes the numbers up, not down. Men choose whether to be measured, and the proud ones are more willing, so volunteer samples run big. When men measure themselves instead of letting a clinician do it, the averages grow by a centimetre or more. The real average of all men, including those who would never volunteer, is unlikely to be bigger than the published one, and may be a bit smaller.
Why it feels small
The average does not feel small because it is wrong. It feels small because of what it is compared with.
Porn. A study of more than 6,900 performer profiles on gay porn sites found sizes the author described as extraordinarily large, with tops advertised from about 8.5 inches up. Studios hire from the far end of the curve and then round up. After a few years of watching, a normal cock starts to look like a disappointment, which says more about the catalogue than about the cock.
Self-reports. College men asked their size gave an average of 16.8 cm6.6 in, and one in ten said eight inches or more. Profiles, chats and locker room talk run on the same currency. When everyone else's number is inflated, an honest one sounds like an admission.
Your own head. Even honest men get it wrong. When 342 men estimated their erect length and were then measured, more than seven in ten had overestimated. The number in their head, the one they compare with, was already bigger than the real thing.
Memory. The ones you remember are the ones that stood out. Nobody tells the story of the perfectly average cock.
The rarity of big cocks is a matter of shape, not just average. With a spread of about 1.7 cm0.7 in, a length of 17.8 cm7 in is somewhere between one man in 76 and one in 400, depending on which average you trust. The full odds are in How rare is a big cock.
Condoms do not lie
If you want a witness with no reason to flatter anyone, ask the companies that sell condoms. They make money by fitting as many men as possible with one standard product. Trojan describes its standard condoms as fitting most men, and suggests a larger size only for a length over seven inches or a girth over five. On the measured data, seven inches is somewhere between one man in 76 and one in 400, and a five-inch girth is about one in six. A company that sized its main line for the porn average would sell a lot of loose condoms.
The men who do need the bigger sizes know it. Among 463 gay and bisexual men in New York, those who reported bigger cocks were more likely to find standard condoms too tight, to struggle to find a fit and to have had one break. That is what being on the far side of the curve looks like in practice: not a conspiracy, but a shopping problem.
So, no conspiracy
The average erect cock is about 13 cm5.1 in to 14 cm5.5 in, measured by people with rulers and no reason to lie. It feels small because porn sells the tail, men round up, and nobody remembers the ordinary ones. The size chart shows exactly where any length sits, and Why everyone adds an inch follows the missing centimetres.
