Everything here begins as an idea, not as a casting call. We chose artificial intelligence because it lets us build characters and places that never existed and shape them until they say exactly what we meant to say, with nobody asked to perform, undress, or be somewhere they would rather not be. It is slower work than it looks: an image is kept only when it holds together on its own.
What we are after is the register other places leave out: blunt, raw, unpolished. It remains fiction from beginning to end, and being fiction is exactly what lets it go as far as it goes.
