Military porn

Gay porn built on soldiers, sailors and marines: uniforms, barracks and a chain of command, real or acted, that turns orders into sex.

Military porn

Military porn is gay porn built on soldiers, sailors and marines: uniforms, dog tags, buzz cuts, barracks, and a chain of command that makes everyone very obedient. The men may be real veterans, actors in costume, or somewhere in between, but the fantasy is always the same: hard, disciplined, masculine men who take orders and give them.

It is one of the oldest uniform fantasies in gay culture. Long before the internet, sailors on shore leave and soldiers in town were a staple of gay pulp, photography and bar talk, and the military look still runs through gay style, from the clone to the skinhead crop.

What you find in it

  • Drill sergeant: the officer who orders the recruit to strip, the service top fantasy in camouflage.
  • Barracks: bunk beds, showers, buddies with too much time and nobody watching.
  • Physical inspection: the medical check that becomes something else.
  • Real men, real service: studios and creators who market performers as active-duty or ex-military, a cousin of the gay for pay pitch.

The cast leans toward muscle, jocks and hunks, with plenty of uniform fetish for those who care more about the boots than about what is in them.

"Honestly the uniform does ninety percent of the work. Keep the boots on."A comment under a military porn clip.

Why the fantasy runs so deep

For most of the twentieth century the armed forces were one of the most hostile places to be gay, and also one of the most homoerotic: young men living together, naked in the showers, bonded by danger. In the United States the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy kept gay service members in the closet until its repeal took effect on September 20, 2011. Military porn played with exactly that tension: the forbidden thing happening in the most masculine place there is.

After the repeal the fantasy did not go away. It just lost some of its danger and kept all of its uniform.

In real life

A lot of "real soldier" porn is actors in surplus-store fatigues. The genuine ones, if there are any in the scene, tend to keep their faces and their unit patches out of the frame.

Close relatives

Military porn shares its hierarchy games with frat porn and its uniforms and boots with fetish porn, especially the leather and gear scenes.
