Size queen

A gay man obsessed with big cocks, for whom size is not one thing among many but the thing. Gay slang since at least 1964.

A size queen is a man who is obsessed with big cocks: for him size is not one thing among many, it is the thing. He will say it openly, he will ask for pictures before saying hello, and he will be honestly disappointed by anything average. Most of the time it is a bottom who wants to be stretched, but tops can be size queens too, and some just love the look.

The word is half insult, half badge. Said by a friend, it is teasing; said by the man himself, it is a cheerful confession. It is rarely said with real contempt, because most of us have at least a little size queen in us.

Where it comes from

Size queen is old gay slang. Green's Dictionary of Slang finds it in 1964, in a gay glossary called the Lavender Lexicon, defined as a gay man interested only in partners with a large penis. It turns up again through the late 1960s and 1970s in gay novels and in early studies of gay speech, including the 1976 essay "Gayspeak".

It belongs to a big family of gay words built with queen: rice queen, potato queen, leather queen, dinge queen, all naming a man by what he is obsessed with. Several of those carry racist baggage; size queen is the friendliest of the lot, because the obsession is with a body part, not a race. A 1967 book already lists "size queens" next to "dinge queens", which shows how old both habits are.

On the apps and in porn

On Grindr and the other apps, size queens are the guys whose first message is "how big?" and whose profiles say "8+ only" or "hung a plus". Porn feeds the habit: size is a selling point in almost every category, from interracial to fetish porn, and huge toys and fisting are the far end of the same road.

Close relatives

A size queen is often a bottom or power bottom, and the guys he chases are the hung tops. A chaser chases a body type; a size queen chases one measurement.
